Blockchain – Not Just For Bitcoin

Ahead of Bio-IT World Expo 2019 (#BioIT19), Richard Shute from Curlew Research is interviewed by Bio-IT World on the ever-growing potential for blockchain and distributed ledger technology (DLT) in life sciences. Blockchain has great potential within the clinical arena to support enhanced data management at nearly every level, he maintains. Added to this its potential in the medicines’ manufacturer-to-patient supply chain to help eliminate the scourges of drug counterfeiting, corruption and bad practice and so help with drug serialization, and you can see how this technology could be pivotal. It seems clear that DLT can benefit researchers and drug companies while protecting patients; this is despite some barriers to adoption which still remain.
