Summer 2023 Informatics Reflections

Informatics Reflections Summer 2023

A few things have caught our attention around applications and data management in the recent months from a recent conference plus the constantly changing updates to products and services and so some brief notes to share and discuss sometime
The role of data management and the ability to make the most of the captured data and improve the efficiency of capture from instruments through processing and its availability in search tools and ML/AI remains a key issue for Research groups and Biopharma.
  • Blurring lines around ELN and LIMS
    • For some areas the role of ELN and LIMS is becoming blurred as the tools seek to support the sample process as well as the experiment process in the same tool. This is more obvious in the biologics modality workflows than chemistry
  • Importance of the data management and effective data markup for downstream usage
    • Growth of more high dimensional assays creates more file based output. Key support for this file based data management and the need to record appropriate metadata on the files is key to enable easier findability and searchability (F & A of FAIR)
  • Increasingly competitive market
    • With a large number of tools in the ELN, workflow tools and LIMS
    • Impacted by the current funding situation with biotechs as well
    • Larger vendors busy comparing themselves
Welcome feedback
